Hiko Waldon Award

If anyone ever wanted to know how a “professional” referee should act at the level of soccer we officiate, one really needed to look no further than Hiko Waldon. Hiko served the beautiful game with an integrity that went beyond an individual decision or game. He consistently acted ethically without any conflicts of interest. He maintained the highest standards both on and off the pitch.

One always knew his standards when given an assignment with Hiko: Show up on time. Shine your shoes. Do your best.

When Hiko Waldon passed away in February the SSOA not only lost a great referee. We lost a mentor, professional, and friend.

In an effort to honor both Hiko’s accomplishments and memory we have established the Hiko Waldon Distinguished Service Award. This will be an annual award given to one SSOA official who represents the highest standards of professionalism in his or her contributions both on and off the pitch to the beautiful game.

The SSOA is proud to present the Hiko Waldon Distinguished Service Award for 2009 to Tim Webb.
